What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic 101

Let’s Start with Health, What is health?

“Health is a state of optimal physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” –World Health Organization (WHO)

Chiropractic is the philosophy, science, and art
concerned with the relationship between structure and function (primarily the spine and nervous system), and how this relationship effects the restoration and preservation of  your health.

Chiropractors target a serious issue, termed  vertebral subluxation.

This occurs when one or more of the 24 vertebrae in the spinal column and/or the pelvis become misaligned and do not move properly. Subluxations cause alteration of nerve function and interference to the nervous system. Subluxations could result in pain, muscle tightness, stiffness, numbness, tingling, burning, headaches, sciatica or a list of many other things  or you may be entirely asymptomatic, ( showing no symptoms), then one day, your body can’t maintain the dysfunction any longer and you begin to feel these symptoms.

Subluxations are corrected and/or reduced by an adjustment. An adjustment is the specific application of forces to correct and/or reduce vertebral subluxation. Our chiropractic method of correction is by specific adjustments of the spine.

Adjustments are usually done by hand but may be performed by handheld instruments. In addition, ancillary procedures such as physiotherapy and/or rehabilitative procedures may be included to aid you on your journey to optimal health.

Your Nervous System controls EVERYTHIING in your body.

What to Expect as a New Patient

At Aligned Chiropractic and Wellness we know that your body was made to heal from the inside. Together, we will determine what is hindering your body from doing so.

When you come in for your first visit we will discuss your relevant history, current sypmtoms, and future goals; and how we can achieve those goals through chiropractic care.

Frequently Asked Questions about Chiropractic and Doctors of Chiropractic

Yes, but our business model does not accept insurance at this time.

Our fee schedule is intended to keep care affordable for you and your family!

A session is based upon the services needed on that particular day. An average session will typically run 10-30 minutes; With initial visits taking the longest amount of time.

First of all, there is no cracking! The technical term for this sound is a “cavitation”. A cavitation is  an audible release of gas that is caused by the release of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, which releases joint pressure. This change in pressure from inside the joint versus outside the joint is simialr to the “pop” you hear when opening a can of soda (or pop depending where you’re from!)

No ones making you! The healing process takes time, and as you get adjusted your spine begins to stabilize and heal in the correct alignment. After the initial corrective/healing phase you will want to continue maintenance care once you realize how much better you are doing!

An adjustment may be a little uncomfortable, but this feeling only lasts seconds.

It varies per individual and the health of their spine. Keep in mind that all processes take time, especially allowing your body to adapt and to heal…Think about getting a cut on your arm; how long does that cut take to fully heal? That cut can take up to 2 weeks to fully heal over, right? Well the same thing happens inside the body, as it does on the outside, we just don’t think of it this way because we can’t see it!

By hand only.

Fun fact: The word “Chiro” comes from the Greek root meaning “hand”

Absolutely! I love checking and adjusting children and infants! Their spines and nervous systems are just as important as yours! (Please refer back to the top of this page)

I’ll answer that with a few questions;

Why do we get routine teeth cleanings? Why do we change our motor oil every 3,000 miles?  Why do olympic athletes and all NFL teams have a chiropractor on staff?
